│ ▒▒▒ 1. Introduction to the Door Menu System ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Welcome to the Door Menu System! It's about time you put your foot down
and called "quits" with the hassles involved in updating your door/game
menus. From this point on, you will only need to concentrate on
categorizing and configuring your door/games.
DMS was designed to simplify the work behind door/game management for both
you and your users. Not only will it be easier for you to setup your
door/games, but it will be easier for your users to find/use them!
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ▒▒▒ 2. Features/Benefits/Goodies ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
■ "Quick Install Program" - Included with the "Door Menu System" archive
is an INSTALL.EXE program to get things on the ball right away.
■ "Quick/Easy Setup" - With a configuration program emulating the
PCBSETUP.EXE configuration program, you won't have to worry about
learning new keys. You have the look and feel of a familiar
environment!
■ "Import DOORS.LST from PCBsetup" - By simply pressing [F5] "Import" in
the door/game configuration area, you can select which doors you would
like to have imported from PCBsetup to DMS!
■ "Enhanced [F1] Online-Help" - To make your life easier, friendly online
help is provided in the DMSETUP.EXE configuration utility. No need to
constantly keep referring to the external documentation.
■ "Multi-Lingual Operation" - The "Door Menu System" uses the same method
as PCBoard's PCBTEXT.<langext> file. It holds the ability to use the
same languages configured with PCBoard. DMSETUP.EXE includes an editor
emulating MKPCBTXT.EXE for easy translation.
■ "Configurable Text/Displays and Colors" - You are given the ability to
modify any color show by the "Door Menu System" making this addition
completely seamless to your system.
■ "Categorization of Door/Games" - One of the popular features of the
"Door Menu System" is the ability to categorize your door/games with up
to 2048 categories, each holding up to 1024 doors!
■ "PPE Availability in Your Door/Game Area" - With DMS, you can easily
make your PPE's available in your door/game area!
■ "Statistics Management" - The "Door Menu System" will keep track of how
many times a door/game has been accessed. Also: The last date/time it
was accessed, and "who" accessed it. In addition, DMS has the ability
to generate a bulletin that will allow you to easily monitor the
activity of your door/games!
■ "Extended OS/2 Support" - If you're using "PCBoard for OS/2", some
additional conveniences will be available for you. With DMS, you no
longer have to worry about "tricking" those environment variables into
DOS sessions. A simple switch will have DMS do the dirty work for you,
automatically!
■ "Age Restrictions" - Now you can secure/restrict your doors by age! DMS
is compatible with any birthday utility recording in MM-DD-YY format.
■ "Broadcast/Chat Interception" - Incoming broadcasts and chat requests
will be accepted and handled accordingly while a user is within DMS.
■ "Enhanced Keyboard Support for ANSI Callers" - For those callers who
have enhanced ANSI, no more "Turn on your NumLock Key"! The "Door Menu
System" supports enhanced keyboard support through your modem! In
addition, alternative key combinations are available for those who don't
have enhanced-ANSI capabilities.
■ "Usable in All Graphic Emulations" - ANSI, RipScrip, or CTTY, the "Door
Menu System" will function normally. Even with non-graphic Macintosh
users.
■ "Small/Low Hard-Drive Space Requirements" - Ever since the beginning,
I've made it a point to keep coding as minimized/optimized as possible.
Even though my programs are smaller (in size) than other programs, they
still do more!

One of the great conveniences of Clark Development's PPLC is the
flexibility to install a PPE virtually anywhere on your system. You will
most likely want to replace your present [Door/Open] commands with DMS.PPE
through PCBoard's CMD.LST. Use the following procedure to accomplish
this ...
■ Execute the PCBSETUP.EXE Configuration Program
■ Select [B] "File Locations" at the "Main Menu"
■ Select [B] "Configuration Files" under "File Locations"
■ Use the Arrow keys to Modify the CMD.LST-File Field; Press [F2] to
Modify its Contents
■ Press [Alt-I] to "Insert" a New/Fresh Blank
■ Enter "OPEN" for the "Command"; "0" (or whatever applies) for the
"Security"; Specify "C:\PCB\DMS\DMS.PPE" (or whatever applies) for
the "Action/Command"
■ Press [Alt-I] to "Insert" another New/Fresh Blank
■ Enter "DOOR" for the "Command"; "0" (or whatever applies) for the
"Security"; Specify "C:\PCB\DMS\DMS.PPE" (or whatever applies) for
the "Action/Command"
... once you have completed this, your record should resemble the
following presentation ...

In order to make DMS's age restriction system useful, you must be using
some type of birthday utility that records your users' birthdates in
MM-DD-YY format. In addition, it must be accessible in one of the
following data locations ...

... the "Set" number is what is to be specified in the DMSETUP.EXE -> [C]
"Other Program Configurations" -> "Date-of-Birth Location/Type" field.
■ Note: If you aren't using a birthday utility, but would like to to take
advantage of DMS's age restriction capabilities: Such a program
is available by us and is distributed as freeware. The latest
version of the "Birth Date Utility" can be obtained at any of our

└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
If you have configured DMS to track door/game usage on your system, you
may also want to take advantage of its bulletin generation capabilities to
make monitoring these statistics easier for you and your users.
To generate your statistics bulletin, use the following command line in
the DMS "home" directory ...
DMSETUP /REQ:2
... the results will be saved in the "screens" directory using the
filename specified in DMSETUP.EXE -> [B] "Adjust Program Paths/Filenames".
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ▒▒▒ 7. Configuration Utility/Command Switches ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The DMSETUP.EXE configuration utility is used for altering the setup the
configuration used with DMS.PPE. Inside this utility there exists some
enhanced routines that are used throughout the program that may not be
compatible on some computers or system configurations. Even though
extreme detection takes place before actually using these routines, there
may be other exceptions that the program is unable to detect.
To solve this problem, DMSETUP.EXE is programmed to recognize special
command parameters (also referred to as the "environment"). They can be
either specified on the DMSETUP.EXE command line, or in a DOS environment
variable named "ARCSOFT" ...
DMSETUP /F
... would pass the "/F" parameter to DMSETUP.EXE when running it ...
SET ARCSOFT=/F
... would also pass the "/F" parameter to DMSETUP.EXE before running it.
Usually, you would place this inside your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This is
useful for command parameters that are used often ...
Switch Description
────── ────────────────────────────────────────────
/F Disable VGA "fading" routines (note: these
are automatically disabled if VGA is not
detected, DESQview/Windows/OS-2 exist in
the environment, and/or if monitor is
monochrome).
/S Disable tenth-"seconds" time display (note:
this is automatically disabled only if
DESQview/Windows/OS-2 exist in the
environment).
/T Disable "time" slices (note: When DESQview,
Windows, or OS-2 is detected, BMSETUP.EXE
will automatically give-up time slices to
improve the overall performance on
your system).
... in addition, there are also some command line parameters that call
special functions that exist inside DMSETUP.EXE. Though these parameters
may be placed in the "ARCSOFT" environment variable, it is -NOT-
recommended that it be done ...
Switch Description
────── ────────────────────────────────────────────
/REQ:1 Update the DMSKEY.IDX key-name index
data/file (this is done automatically by
DMSETUP.EXE if any door/games have been
added or removed during the configuration).
/REQ:2 Generate the door/game statistics bulletin
in "screens" directory.
/REQ:3 Create DMSTEXT.<langext> text/language
display file (this function is used by the
INSTALL.EXE installation utility).
/REQ:4 Pack contents of the DMSTAT.DAT statistics
file (this is done automatically by
DMSETUP.EXE if any door/games have been
removed during the configuration).
/REQ:5 Generate REPORT.TXT file (this is done
automatically by DMSETUP.EXE when "Yes"
is answered to the final "save?" prompt).
... these are useful for automation purposes.

│ ▒▒▒ 8. Errors/Problems w/ (DMS.PPE) ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
"Error Loading PPE (C:\PCB\DMS\DMS.PPE)"
There are a couple of possibilities as to why you may receive this
error. The most common one is, you aren't running PCBoard 15.22 or
above. This version of DMS was compiled in PPLC v3.20 which can only be
used with PCBoard versions 15.22 or later.
"Unable to Allocate Memory (Variable Declaration)"
This error is saying that there is not enough conventional memory to
load DMS.PPE. If you are using a multi-tasker such as DESQview, Windows
or OS/2, that is probably the cause of the problem. You will need to
alter the DOS settings specified in your multi-tasker to adjust the
conventional memory size. An alternative choice would be to lower the
Overlay size of the PCBOARD.EXE executable w/ OVLSIZE.EXE (located in
the PCBoard directory). As of today, the default Overlay size is the
"20" setting. Try lowering it to 18 or 16 to free up more conventional
memory if you are getting this error.

└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
With the existence of PPLC decompiling utilities, people now hold the
ability to obtain a crude representation of the original source code.
Some people dislike the existence of these utilities, some people like
them. Of course, there are two different views behind this battle, and I
respect both.
Please keep in mind that the "Door Menu System" is Copyrighted material.
In absolutely -NO- way do you hold the right to decompile/modify the "Door
Menu System".
For those who want to make the illegal attempt to try and hack the "Door
Menu System", I suggest you reconsider. In the past I have found "hacked
up" copies of some of my programs, and to be honest with you, I'm deeply
shocked: Shocked that a bunch of adults find these attempts "cool".
Realistically, not only are you damaging the software, but your damaging
the hard work and dedication that was placed into creating these programs.
Thanks for listening to my thoughts on this issue, and please respect my
work.
